Inspect your vent piping before fill ups on your tank. Your vent line typically is covered with a mushroom cap. The mushroom cap is a haven for bugs to collect which can restrict the flow of air to escape from the tank during fill ups which can result in over pressurizing your tank. Remove the mushroom cap and remove any bugs/webs etc from underneath the cap.

Always attempt to keep your oil tank full.
Not having your tank full allows the tank to "sweat" which will create water to collect at the
bottom of your tank.

Effective Aug. 4, 2006, the Petroleum Underground Storage Tank Remediation, Upgrade and Closure Program provides loans and grants to eligible applicants to help finance project costs for the closure and replacement of a non-leaking residential underground storage tank (UST).
